Who's driving your bus?

I'm about to tell you a secret. Actually it's not really a secret but you'd be surprised at just how many people don't know it anyway. It's a simple, straightforward truth that literally has the power to change peoples' lives.

We all have the power to control our own emotions! We all have the power to be the driver of our own bus, in other words.

There, that's it! That's all there is to it.

Most people go through life thinking that their emotions, their quality of life depends upon other people, upon circumstances or upon things they can't control like the weather or even the performance of their favourite football team. But nothing can be further from the truth.

Your emotional quality of life depends upon your decisions about what's important, about what's worth your effort (things within your control or influence) and what's not worth the work it would take to frustrate yourself (things not within your control or influence).

Stoic philosopher, Epictetus began his 'Stoic handbook', 'The Enchiridion' with this one principle. Some things are not within our power - we should not waste time on them. We should focus instead upon the things we can control... our thoughts, our feelings, our behaviours and (to a limited extent) our physical health.

Yet so many people go through life making their happiness dependent upon other people. They make others responsible via their opinions, statements or actions, for their own happiness. This makes them helpless.

TAMtalking works by helping people to understand what is within their power to change (a problem) and what is not theirs to control (a fact). Knowing the difference between a problem and a fact is the quickest way to begin taking back control of your own life. This is how you can start to drive your own bus to your own chosen destination.
